Eguavoen Makes Shock Revelation About Super Falcons Goalkeeper Nnadozie

Super Falcons caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen has revealed that Nigeria goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has the ability to play as a centre-back, highlighting her versatility and technical qualities.

According to AllNigeriaSoccer, Eguavoen made the revelation after Nigeria defeated Comoros 2-0 in the first leg of their second-round qualifying tie for the 2028 Olympic Games.

Nnadozie, who plays for Brighton & Hove Albion, kept a clean sheet as the Super Falcons secured an important victory at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, on Friday.

Alozie and Kanu Lead Nigeria to Victory

The Super Falcons found it difficult to break down the Comoros defence during the first half, with both teams going into the break without a goal.

However, Nigeria took the lead just three minutes into the second half when Michelle Alozie found the back of the net.

Uchenna Kanu later doubled Nigeria's advantage with a well-timed header around the hour mark, giving the Super Falcons a comfortable 2-0 win.

The result puts Nigeria in a strong position ahead of the second leg as the team continues its quest to qualify for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Eguavoen Explains Christy Ucheibe's Defensive Role

During the match, midfielder Christy Ucheibe was deployed in central defence because Oluwatosin Demehin was unavailable.

Speaking about the possibility of Ucheibe continuing in that position, Eguavoen emphasised the importance of having players who can perform different roles on the pitch.

He explained that versatility gives the team more tactical options, particularly when key players are unavailable.

Eguavoen also discussed the retirement of Osinachi Ohale, revealing that he had tried to convince the experienced defender to reconsider her decision.

However, he acknowledged that Ohale had made up her mind and said her decision had to be respected.

The coach added that Ucheibe had the qualities required to operate in more than one position.

Nnadozie Can Also Play Centre-Back, Says Eguavoen

The most surprising part of Eguavoen's comments concerned Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie.

The coach explained that he values players who can adapt to different positions rather than relying on individuals to perform only one role.

He said the squad's versatility was a significant advantage for Nigeria.

Eguavoen stated: "It's very possible because we are blessed. My philosophy is that for a player to be able to play for us because it's not a one-woman team, you must be able to play more than one position, which is an added advantage."

He further stressed that the entire team possessed the ability to adapt to different positions before making his revelation about Nnadozie.

According to the coach, the goalkeeper could also feature in central defence because of her ability with the ball during training.

"She [Nnadozie] can play centre-back. If you see what she does with the ball during training, she can," Eguavoen said.

Nnadozie initially started her football journey as a striker before switching to goalkeeping. Her early experience in an attacking role could help explain her comfort and technical ability when playing with the ball.

Despite the revelation, Nnadozie remains an important figure in the Super Falcons' goalkeeping department.

Super Falcons Target Another Victory Against Comoros

Nigeria will face Comoros again on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, in the second leg of their Olympic qualifying tie.

The Super Falcons will be determined to protect their two-goal advantage and secure an aggregate victory to advance to the third round of the qualification campaign.

With a clean sheet in the first leg and goals from Michelle Alozie and Uchenna Kanu, Nigeria will be looking to maintain its momentum in the return fixture.

Progression would take the team one step closer to securing a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
